beach bath time

July 26th - Let's Go to the Beach!  I'm not a huge fan of the beach (too hot and I burn instantly) so here's a fun bath-time alternative :)

p is also for painting

Decided to do another sketch today... this time P is for Painting!  Turns out it's as much fun to draw paint as it is to actually paint.

I've never actually used this kind of wood palette, in high school we painted on old lunch trays covered in foil.  And now if I paint traditionally I use a plate covered in foil.  My palettes are usually much more messy than this too.  I do love how this palette looks though :)

ewwww eyeballs

July 18th - Ewwwww Gross!  Personally, I think having a jar of eyeballs would be more cool than gross.  But if it spilled and eyeball slime went everywhere....that I would not enjoy so much.

killer cantaloupe

Loved today's topic of deadly fruit.  It combines two of my favorite things - drawing food and anatomy!

Woohoo - Number 7 on Buzzfeed's 20 Creepy Things You Can Find on Etsy I am actually rather proud to be included on such a list

hunter

July 10th - Birds of Prey

I took a zoological illustration class in college where a few owls and hawks were brought in so we could sketch and take pictures of them.   My favorite was a barred owl named Hunter.  A sketch I did today is above, and a painting I did for the course is below.

some potatoes are happy

There are a lot of potatoes in the world and, while I don't know about the rest, I know these potatoes are happy.

These happy potatoes were illustrated for the topic "Happiness is Not a Potato" as part of The Creative Collective's synchroblogging project.

settlers of catan

This past weekend I completed a different, much craftier, type of art project - Brandon and I made our own Settlers of Catan board.  Brandon cut the pieces out of wood, sanded and stained them, and then it was my turn to paint pictures on the pieces.  The lambs (not surprisingly) were my favorite.

We made all of the pieces needed for the game ourselves, except for the deck of cards which we bought.

All set up and ready to play!

gesture and figure drawing

Today's sketch daily topic is figure drawing and timed gesture drawings.  I haven't done this since college and I've never done gestures digitally.  I was feeling pretty out of practice so I started with a bunch of 1 minute drawings (above) to get back into the flow.

I used this picture from pixelovely.com as a reference for the drawings below.

skulls - past and present

July 5th - Out of Time!

Today's concept was to draw two time periods together.  So I give you an old triceratops skull and a more recent human skull.

happy day!

July 2nd - IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

It's not my birthday, sadly, but it is someone's on the internet.  Yay internet and yay birthdays!  So here's a panda poppin' out of a cake.

Happy day!

anatomy baby doll

Today's topic was to draw "OMG WTF". I knew I wanted to draw something with anatomy since the medical photos that pop up occasionally in r/wtf never phase me.  I guess all that time in gross anatomy desensitized me.  Baby dolls though, those are creepy.

apple half

Today's topic was tall tales, such as the legend of Johnny Appleseed.  I wanted to keep this one quick, so I decided to draw just an apple with seeds instead of the actual man.  So even thought this apple isn't entirely on theme, I still think it looks rather delicious :)
